Georgetown Loop Railroad, Incorporated Now
Operates Historic Royal Gorge Route Railroad
The Georgetown Loop Railroad, Inc., a Colorado Corporation, ran the Georgetown Loop Railroad for the Colorado Historical Society, for a period of 32-years, until October, 2004. The Georgetown Loop Railroad, Incorporated attempted to renegotiate another long-term contract with the CHS. However, the final offer made by the CHS for an increase in fee, higher liability limits and a shortened operating term, forced the Georgetown Loop Railroad, Inc. to end operating its steam trains on the famous line and concentrate all efforts operating the Historic Royal Gorge Route Railroad, located in Canon City, Colorado. We were very proud to have carried over 132,000 passengers during our last season operating the Loop, meeting demand with 3 steam engines, 2 diesels, 13 passenger cars, and the expertise of our outstanding employees. The historic steam equipment of the Georgetown Loop Railroad, Inc. may now be seen at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, CO.
